It pursues its prey at high speed and grasps it with its raptorial forelimbs, then injects cytotoxic venom from glands in its claws which breaks down the prey’s tissues to make it easier to tear apart. It has grooves on its claws which facilitate the venom’s delivery. It is attracted to bright colours, and the vibrant stripes on its back are used for sexual display. Females have purple stripes, and males have green stripes. Occasionally, gynandromorphic specimens are born with green and purple stripes on opposite halves of their shell.
