After several months of anticipation I finally get to introduce Kristy in the webcomic! Dennis, Kristy and Wally have been the core characters of Battle Kreaturez since its very first draft. It’s great to finally see them back together. Not to mention I just plain love drawing Kristy.
Next week I’m gonna start posting comic pages twice a week! New update days will be Tuesday and Saturday!
And here’s Wade’s introduction page! It’s fun to write Wade and Kristy’s dialogue, I enjoy their bickering.
Wade and Kristy are both about 6′ tall. The 4th panel really drives home how huge Dennis is. He could be in the NBA.
The two plot threads in this chapter are finally about to converge…
I busted my ass off to get this title page done in time. Like I literally JUST finished it. There’s no motivation more powerful than last-minute panic. Usually I finish these weeks in advance and use those weeks to add some final touches, so it doesn’t look as good as it could have if I’d had more time. :/
One thing about these title pages that’s kind of fun is that they allow me to give kind of a glimpse of the story between chapters. When I find the time I’ll probably go back and draw a title page for Chapter 01.
I don’t think I’ll post a textless version of this. The title is covering up the worst part of the image. xp
Ugh ew I hate that first panel. I still haven’t gotten around to rendering a model for the Wyldcard team’s home. I do like how the third panel turned out though. I got sidetracked so this page took longer than it should have to draw. At any rate, it feels great to finally start fleshing out my characters.
Kristy created Henry so I guess that technically makes her his mother. Kristy confirmed for honorary MILF.
In site update news: Doomoth and Psyorb have been added to the Kreature Archive.
I almost threw in the towel and took this week off, but once again I’ve finished a page just in time.
This page was also a recent addition to the story. I felt I needed to establish the Wyldcard team’s shaky financial situation. Don’t ask me what they’re eating. It looks like dog food. We’ll just say it’s generic cartoon food blobs and fruit punch, I guess. Drawing the dining room in the first panel was more difficult than I bargained for. I finally have a handle on perspective now but hat doesn’t mean it’s fun.
As for site updates, profiles for Heartling, Bladetayto and Klamptacle have been added to the Kreature Archive.
I actually finished this page yesterday! I’m starting to finally gain a bit of headway here.
New day, different clothes! Giving them alternate outfits helps to break up the tedium when you’re drawing the same characters all the time. Wade is very expressive. He’s more fun to write than he is to draw and I’ve been trying to rectify that. I’m slightly annoyed that there’s been more interaction between Wade and Kristy so far than there has between Dennis and Kristy, but he’s been busy with Ben so whatever. At least I enjoy writing their banter.
Overly-serious-killjoy leading female webcomic characters are a pervasive cliché I don’t care for. I occasionally worry Kristy might come off that way but hopefully her wry sense of humour offsets that; responsible characters don’t need to be boring.
As for site updates, it’s been raining sea serpents around here! Gwatkaroe, Serpentros, Lauc and Ladarg have been added to the Kreature Archive.
Yet another page finished just in time. I could have finished it yesterday but I wanted to relax.
I think this just about covers everybody’s backstory and motivations so far; at least all that’s necessary to advance the story for now. It feels so great to finally get Ben out of that damn martial arts outfit. I guess we’ll say he had some spare clothes in his hoverpod because I don’t feel like wasting a panel explaining where he got them.
As for site updates, Bodox has been added to the Kreature Archive.
Sorry about the sudden brief hiatus! My lower neck and wrist were killing me and I needed a break. By the time I felt better Tuesday was already over, so I figured I’d just wait for Saturday’s update.
Despite the fact that I had several days of lead in I only just barely finished this page in time. I’ve been playing around with some new art techniques. I’ve made some pretty big breakthroughs recently! A shame my backgrounds still don’t look better. How I wish I had a backlog.
To make up for the lack of a comic last week I uploaded a shitload of Kreature profiles: Spongely, Spongelar, Spongelin, Spongelord, Pterrask, Sharpeak, Cleavbill and Guillojaw have all been added to the Kreature Archive! Also here’s a legible version of Ben’s KCF profile. His stats are mediocre!
I managed to finish this one a day early!
This page kinda stands out in stark contrast to the rest of this chapter, which has admittedly been very dialogue heavy with utilitarian poses and panel layouts. Since this page would rely purely on visuals I played around with textures and overlays to give it some colourful abstract backgrounds.
Hoverpod autopilots are sophisticated enough to drive themselves. I figure Dennis could have easily just sent his hoverpod to pick up Ben for him but he likely did it himself at first to keep Ben company and help him feel more welcome.
As for site updates, Oareedar has been added to the Kreature Archive, and a drawing of Kristy by Van Husk I has been added to my steadily-growing fanworks page!
I’ve got an hour of Tuesday left! I met my deadline, technically!
It would appear the Wyldcard team is growing attached to Ben… and perhaps vice versa. I like how the tiles in the first and fifth panels turned out.
As for site updates, Pricklepede, Torkyrax and Torkyrum have been added to the Kreature Archive. I also added a new banner! Refresh the page a few times if you don’t see it.
